Scorsese’s finest film in 30 years is a richly rewarding masterwork that perhaps stands as the third part of a loose trilogy of definitive Italian-American crime dramas that began with Mean Streets (1973), and Goodfellas (1990). Persuading Pesci out of retirement was genius as his quietly menacing portrayal of Russell Bufalino is the sinister baseline that underpins the wonderful performances of two of cinema’s greatest actors: De Niro and Pacino together on screen again is such a joy and both give their most finely modulated performance in years. Fantastic film!!
